What is Transition To Kindergarten?
Transition To Kindergarten (TTK) is “a program for children not yet age five who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten and have been deemed by a school district, through a screening process and/or other instrument(s), to be in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten the following year.” Schools offering TTK will need a “screening process and/or instrument(s) which measure the ability or the need, or both, of an individual student to succeed in earlier entry” (WAC 392-335-025).
We are proud to serve children with and without disabilities within our Transition To Kindergarten classrooms. Student’s rights to a free and appropriate education (FAPE) WAC 392-172A-02000:
Each school district and residential or day schools operated under Chapters 28A.190 and 72.40 RCW shall provide every student who is eligible for special education between the ages of three and twenty-one years, a free appropriate public education program (FAPE).
Our classes are guided by state Early Learning Benchmarks, coordinated with the Kindergarten Common Core standards and using research-validated early literacy curriculum to provide a smooth transition to Freeman Elementary School.
Students must be 4 by 8/31 to enroll into our TTK program.
